Marcelo & Cole Miller talk about finishes and escapes from the Omoplata: When caught under attack from the Omoplata Shoulder-Lock (Coil-Lock, Sankaku-Garami, et al.), it is important to escape without putting yourself in even greater danger; if you pull slowly out of the hold, you can expose your elbow to hyperextension by allowing your opponent to control your wrist and push it away for an Armbar Variation. Once your elbow slips free passed your opponent's knee-line, apply a generously vigorous tug back to safety before they can manipulate your arm or bring you back down into the Omoplata. The same idea can be applied when escaping from the Kimura; if you attempt to escape without a quick burst at the opportune time, you can oftentimes put yourself in trouble. Drag your elbow close to your hip to keep your limb defensively strong when attempting to break out of the Fig.-4 Grip placed around your arm. If you are attacking with the Omplata, and your opponent hunkers down without posture, remember to sit-up and quickly chase their far-side shoulder to solidify the hold and eventually break them down for the finish.
