2 Part Technique - The back step pass from half guard is a great alternative passing option when the opponent assumes single leg control from butterfly. Secure a collar grip behind his neck while you step in between his legs, letting the opponent even grab onto your leg. Swing your outside leg in a wide circle behind you bringing your hip to the mat on the opposite side and immediately look to secure Underhook and Head Control on the now farside. Your top leg takes the role of providing base behind you and also is used to pry your leg free from his half guard. If he tries follow you with an underhook and interfere with your base in the back step half guard with a butterfly hook, smack his knee down to the mat to generate enough space to hop over into the mount position.
