3 Part Technique - The last step in completing the Over Under Pass is to free your ankle from your opponent's half guard. It would be a shame for your to work so hard to arrive at this point in the pass, only to stop short because your foot is trapped between his legs. Don't let your foot snag against his thighs while trying to slide it through his guard. Simply turn your hips, knees, and feet outward and wedge your instep between the crack formed between his calves. If the figure-four holding your foot is locked to the outside, slip your instep in from the top; If it's on bottom or an inside lock (à la lockdown half guard), come from underneath and kick your foot free. When his figure-four lock forms a perfect triangle, there is no need to bother trying to slip your foot between his calves because there will be more than enough space to slide through as you normally would for the Over Under Pass. If your opponent secures an underhook, you can no longer continue the pass nor kick your foot free. Instead, grab onto his collar and assume the posturing similar to the Knee Slide Pass, except sitting on top of his hips. Clean off his figure-four by visually analyzing which type it is, and untangling your foot with the respective hooks. If you're having trouble reaching his calves with your instep, readjust the direction of your knees so they align with his by dropping your nearside hip to the mat.
