2 Part Technique - Marcelo finds many of his submission opportunites in the transition, going even as far as helping an opponent with an escape just so he can capitalize on the momentary openness of the position. This is especially true in the Side Control, where he will pull his opponent onto his side to entice him to extend his elbow away from his body. However, he considers several precautions in mind while rolling them toward or away; for one, he cannot expose his leg for his opponent to recover the guard, and set him backwards in his hunt for the submission. Secondly, he only lets the opponent reach for an underhook on his own terms, when he is ready for it. As he looks to underhook or take the single, mount over his chest, and catch arm onto your lap for the Spiral Armbar. To finish, extend your other leg over his shoulder, sitting off to the side, and lean into his wrist while blocking with a bent leg for the armlock. If after you step over and capture his underhook, he recovers half guard on your other leg, swing your foot over his face for the Monoplata. Finish this one-legged omoplata by scooting your hips laterally while cupping his elbow.
