2 Part Technique - The point of this X-Guard lesson is twofold; firstly, do not let your head dip when performing the technical stand for the Takedown Sweep. Secondly, if you notice you're being defended well against the Takedown Sweep, reenter into territory you know you can win. Set-up the X-Guard from a countered Hook Sweep from Butterfly when your opponent posts his leg. Rock in your second hook, and reach for his wrists or sleeves. If he posts his arms away to avoid your grips, technically stand, and keep your head elevated to avoid him countering with the High Leg Over Escape. If while standing, you lose his knee from your shoulder, hold onto leg as much as possible, and pull him back into X-Guard for the Unbalance Sweep. This is a common scenario for when Marcelo senses that he is outmatched in the Stand-Up and his opponent will defensively wrestle his takedown attempt.
