2 Part Lesson — Paul explains a basic Spider Guard Entry as well as two complementary sweeping options: [I] It is important to understand the idea of never letting your opponent break your Closed Guard; when you feel like you are going to lose control of the position, switch to another guard on your own time, and not the timing of the top player. Release the Closed Guard early and fill the inside space with your feet on his hips, shoulders, and/or biceps. [II] If you feel your opponent commit his weight forward, step off of his bicep and on to his hip for the Overhead Balloon Sweep. If you feel the opponent retract; lay on your side as you cup his ankle for the Sickle Sweep.
