4 Part Lesson — Paul shows several options for when his opponent stands up inside the Closed Guard: [I] Weight is placed on top of the opponent's thigh with your hips by pressing off of the mat in a Hand-Stand movemnet. Lay your hips heavily on his bottom leg to prevent escape and rip the far sleeve in an arc as you rise on top in mount. [II] Paul reiterates the detail wherein the bottom leg kicks straight rather than retracting in the completion of the sweep. Students will oftentimes encounter difficulty with the bottom leg unless this part is stressed. [III] By breaking and grabbing the sleeve before the sweep, Paul forgoes having to search for the arm later and giving his opponent the chance to escape. [IV] If the opponent presses you away with an extended arm, launch your hips high and around the shoulder, cutting your knee over the surface of the mat for the armbar.
