Breaking Posture from Closed Guard, Collar Choke from Closed Guard
1 Part Lesson -- In this lesson, Paul demonstrates a collar choke from closed guard. As with all submissions from closed guard, it is important to begin by breaking your opponent's posture. Once you have done so, open your opponent's collar with one hand and insert the other, four fingers in, driving the radial part of your wrist into his neck. Pivot your body so it is approximately 90 degrees, in relation to your opponent, and then club the back of his head with your free arm. This action ensures the posture remains broken, but also loosens up the fabric on the back of the gi, slightly, so you can easily stick your free hand, thumb first, into the collar to secure the choke. Finish the choke by driving your elbows to your hips, placing your head on the same side as your top hand, and driving your wrists into his neck.
