2 Part Lesson — Marcelo wants his students to recognize an opportunity for attack after defending a pass: [I] If your opponent lunges forward for Underhook & Head Control against your Seated Butterfly Guard, interfere with his connection by building a Frame against his shoulder, preventing him from closing the distance. While held at bay, bring your knee back inside between your bodies from the Half Guard to recover back Double Knee Shield/Spider Guard -- with both feet placed on the opponent's hips, kick him away to recover your Upright Seated Position. [II] Sometimes, your opponent will leave himself vulnerable for attack as pressures forward into your Spider Guard; when this happens, release one leg and swing diagonally down on his shoulder for the Omoplata.
