3 Part Lesson — Marcelo shows how to Escape (and then Pass) the Spider Guard: [I] First figure out which lead leg you need to leave inside of your opponent's Open Guard to pass immediately after you free your hands. Rotate your hands against the Lasso Hook, pulling your elbow back, and inch-worm your four fingers across his thigh to pressure his sleeve grip. Keep your head up the whole time to avoid the Triangle while you work your hand free. Once free, avoid his re-grip and hit a Leg Drag as he looks to control a DLR Hook. [II] If your opponent kicks his Stirrup Hook straight as you try to drag his pants, team up on his sleeve grip and yank back your other hand to gain freedom for both arms. Push his leg down and land in ½-Mount, holding him tight around his waist until you can claim an Underhook for the Over/Under Pass. If you land in ¾-Mount, claim the opposite Underhook and hit the Knee Cross Pass to the other side. [III] If you cannot break the Lasso, knee-off his Stirrup (Foot-On-Biceps) and stomp/yank your sleeve free by placing your foot on his own biceps and pulling your hand back. If he looks for your ankle, use your hand to push down oh his gripping hand to pull back your trapt sleeve. If he's looking to re-grip, you cannot grab his wrist to break the sleeve because he will bring you back to his game. Instead, place his foot in between your legs and push his knee down to break the Lasso and land the Folding Pass. If you are able to break out without having to push his knee down for the Fold, tuck his other leg in between and land tightly inside for a Knee Outside Pass.
