Lapel Control Arm Trap from Side Control → Armbar from Mount → Far Side Armbar from North/South Position
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo shares some magic: [I] If you have time to release your opponent from a tight Side Control because he is in a defensive posture, unclasp your hands and make a new grip on his shoulder as you pull out his nearside lapel. Take the skirt-tail of his jacket and feed it across his farside forearm to your gripping hand and completely immobilize his arm with a Lapel Trap. Adjust your grip until there is no slack left and place your foot on his nearside knee with your hand atop his other knee; step over your own arm and settle into the Mount position while still maintaining control over his farside arm. Utilize the Lapel Trap to turn your opponent onto his side and guide his nearside arm into a Technical Mount. Before releasing the grip to take the Armbar, swing your leg over his face while pulling his hands apart (n.b.; pull down on his arm, thumb-up, toward the side of his legs as opposed to his shoulder for the best chance at keeping the top position in the Armlock). [II] If your opponent goes for an Underhook before you can set the Lapel Trap, spin to N/S and feed his lapel into a One-handed Kimura Grip, trapping his arm in a tight hold. Pin his free arm down with your knee and take the Farside Armbar with the new, modified Lapel Trap variation.
