Single Leg Control from Butterfly → Lapel Grip → Backstep Re-Counter
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo addresses the Backstep with Lapel Grips: [I] If your opponent applies a Backstep against your Lapel & Single Leg Control from Shin-on-Shin, prevent the Cross-Face when he lands by posting on his chest or shoulders; if the opportunity presents itself, rush up and take over the top position while maintaining your Shin-Hook. [II] If you cannot rise up and sweep from the Reverse Half/Butterfly, switch your Lapel Grip to your other hand quickly (in the same manner as is seen in Reverse De La Worm Guard), prevent the Cross-Face once more, and use the superior grip to come up with the sweep. [III] If your opponent manages to land, catching your head in the Cross-Face, hold his body close and switch out your Shin-Hook for the opposite leg, allowing you to bridge and kick over onto the top position.
