3 Part Lesson — Show aggression by butt-scooting: Actively pursue your opponent if he refuses to engage your Butterfly Guard while standing; press forward to demonstrate your willingness to fight and not stall. However, be prepared if your opponent decides to turn on and attack; defend your legs at all costs. Fight to find his hands and prevent them from grabbing your legs. If he avoids the hand-fight altogether, capture his exposed legs for a Single Leg Takedown or Single Leg X Guard. [II] If you cannot reach his lead leg, use your instep to hook behind his ankle from the inside and pull yourself to his knee. If at any point your opponent begins attacking your legs after you come close, find his hands and break his grips before it's too late and he initiates a pass. [III] Increase your chances against a larger opponent or superior wrestler by fighting from the Seated Butterfly Position. Avoid his strengths and fight the battle from a grounded position where you are more likely to land a submission.
