2 Part Lesson — Marcelo helps his students understand how to neutralize their opponent's attempt to escape from Back Control: [I] If your opponent begins using a 2on1 Grip to dismantle your grips and unfasten the Seatbelt, you must be ready to hand-fight to keep the Back Position; your underhooking hand must win 1-on-1 Wrist Control while your overhand must circle out of whatever sleeve or wrist control the opponent has made. You may need to spin under or over the opponent's grip, but make sure you don't open up the position too much. Immediately, look to close the position back under your control after you break their defensive grips (or render them ineffective by weakening them). [II] If your opponent tries to weave his or her head underneath your choking arm, prevent your arm from getting crossed too deeply by applying a Horse-Collar-Grip behind the nape of their neck. You may need to twist your hand under the opponent's sleeve grip before yanking free back to the Seatbelt. However, don't make a large motion away from the plane of the opponent's back otherwise you run the risk of losing the position and/or ending up on bottom.
