4 Part Lesson -- Marcelo recovers from a sweep attempt: If your opponent surprises you with a quick sweep, knocking you backwards toward the mat, prepare to kick your opponent away from you and pop right back up to your feet. [01:52] If your opponent controls or picks up one of your legs, weakening your kick, work harder to stand back up. Try your best to separate your legs from one another and extract them out from underneath the opponent's control. If he or she gets too close to your chest and bypasses your frames, pummel for Underhooks to improve your position. [05:32] If your opponent latches around your legs, try forcing them to post by rotating into a modified hip-toss. You may not come up on top but he or she may let go long enough for you to remove your legs or pummel for Double Underhooks. [07:30] Marcelo has his students drill the specific position; be careful not to sit on your partner's outstretched leg. Conversely, don't place your leg in between your opponent's legs where it can be accidentally injured.
