2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo handles his opponent's Cross-Face: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; disallow your opponent from making a close connection with his or her shoulder to your jawline. Frame from the inside and block your opponent from securing a deep grip around your head and/or ipsilateral (same-side) arm. Turn onto your side to better take one your opponent's weight so that you can remove the grips and eventually fight for an Underhook. [04:18] If your opponent gets too close and wraps your head, wedge your forearm inside while palming your own forehead. Shoehorn your head free from the Cross-Face by slipping out and immediately prevent the arm from reattaching with strong frames. You can transition into Deep Half Guard or come up with an Underhook once you've freed your head from the pressure of the Cross-Face.
