3-Part Advanced Lesson -- Bernardo teaches several paths for sweeping from Knee-Shield Half-Guard: Use a Cross-Collar Grip to help keep your opponent at a distance while kneeling inside your Half-Guard (Z-Guard, Knee-Shield, et al.); if they get too comfortable you can sometimes attack their neck with a Cross-Choke or Loop-Choke directly from your Half-Guard. Feed your opponent's far-lapel through their legs and escape your hips so that you can secure the skirt-tail into your hand for a Single or Double-Leg. [3:22] If your opponent is preventing you from feeding their lapel through for the Pumphandle-Grip, use your top-side knee to bump them forward from behind. Also, if your opponent is waiting to fence for an Under-Hook, you can use your Knee-Shield to wipe away their arm and clear space for your sweep. [6:34] If your opponent is trying to Cross-Collar Choke you from a their Knee-Cut Pass against your Half-Guard, place your knee or even your foot onto their hip and stretch them away from your neck. Generally, they will have to abandon their attack which will allow you time to continue moving towards a modified Sickle-Sweep with the lapel.
