Breaking the Closed Guard
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo maintains his base after breaking open the Closed Guard: Find a low, staggered stance with your preferred lead leg forward when you stand and force your opponent to transition into an Open Guard. Stay in a squat position and reinforce yourself from getting pulled forward or pushed backward. [04:07] Prevent the opponent from sitting up into you by pressing them down with your lead hand. If they try to kick your hip back, force that leg either onto your lap and under your armpit or sit on their shin placing the foot between your legs.
