Shooting from the Outside
1 Part Lesson -- Marcelo advocates shooting from the outside: If you are the smaller grappler, risking a shot and ending up stuck underneath your opponent's sprawl may not seem like an advisable tactic. However, if you circle around your opponent's base as you undermine it, you prevent the possibility of crumpling under your opponent's weight. However, this style of shooting in on the legs requires timing and opportunity. Utilize Hand-fighting skills to open up a window of attack; wrist control, 2on1, or even an Armdrag can help present the leg you wish to capture. If you use an Armdrag, don't pull the opponent on top of you as you pull; rather, toss the opponent's arm aside to find a clear for the Swing or Sit-Out Single-Leg.
