Standing Step Pass > Folding Pass
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo chains passes together: When approaching your opponent's Open Guard, be careful not to let them control your lead leg with a grip. Place your opponent's foot towards center before assuming grips on the pants and jacket. Before your opponent can grab your lead foot, execute the Standing Step Pass (aka X-Pass) into Knee-On-Belly. If your opponent recovers their knee back inside before you can settle into Knee-Mount, you can try to pummel your knee around their knee. If your opponent is persistent in this defense, switch gears by changing direction and implementing the Folding Pass. Land on top of your opponent's legs and pass to the original side. [03:00] Get your whole body behind your arm as you look to push your opponent's knees away for the Folding Pass. Cover the hips and use your foot to help hook their shins as you circle around and pass out of their smashed guard.
