Foot Pummel vs 50/50 Guard, Knee on Belly, Back Step Pass vs Inverted Open Guard
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo unravels the dreaded and revered 50/50: If your opponent tries to instigate a see-saw battle and pendulates their leg to generate momentum for a sweep from the 50/50, reallocate your base so that you can quickly swing your foot inside as Crab-Hook and pin your opponent's free leg down with your weight through just your knee. This will free up your hands to help work yourself out of the 50/50 and also prevent a Reverse Closed Guard or a Knee-Bar. Apply a Back-Step into Knee-Mount where you can face your opponent and free your leg from your opponent's lapel-assisted grip around your ankle. [06:54] Similarly, if your opponent tries to ensnare your leg by falling away from the Standing Closed Guard Position with a Muscle-Sweep entry into K-Guard (Matrix Guard, et al.), use your hands to help push their knees away while looking to employ the Back-Step maneuver. Stabilize the top position after the Back-Step by bringing your foot across the opponent's face with a Leg-Over Pass.
