Sprawl vs Takedown
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo counters a shot: Getting taken down is the first big mistake you can make at the start of a match. To avoid this, approach your opponent in a low stance and focus on controlling their hands. It they take a shot, brace against their shoulders and sprawl your legs back. Look to control an arm long enough to successfully pull guard with control. You can grab a sleeve, double up on the wrist, or use a 2on1 by grabbing behind the elbow. [06:21] If you know your opponent is going to followup with a second takedown attempt after you've successfully defended the first, you grab them and snap them down as you spin around towards their back. [09:38] If your opponent remains low after taking a shot, chances are they will attempt a Re-Shot without changing levels again. If you notice your opponent pause and stay low after shooting in and missing, be ready to counter the second shot.
