Marcelo offers advice to Jee about a tricky neck crank situation: As a general rule, don't let your opponent occupy the space around your neck; protect your vulnerable parts by tucking your chin when your opponent tries to invade the surrounding space with their limbs (even with their own head; e.g. Crane-Pass, Reverse Can-Opener, et al). Some opponents may try to apply maneuvers from unorthodox positions that you will have to eventually develop an awareness and response for well before they become too late to adequately survive the problem. Don't take any unnecessary chances by exposing your neck wide open for attack, even when there doesn't seem to be a plausible threat underway. Keep defensively sound and conservative when it comes to defending submission techniques of this kind.
