Back Escape from Turtle Position
Advanced Lesson Part 1 of 2 -- Marcelo escapes from strong-side back control with the bottom hook set in: Ideally, one should try to land onto the weak-side, i.e. on the side of your opponent's under-hook, not the over-hooked choking arm, when rolling out from the Turtle-Position. However, if your opponent rolls you through onto their strong-side, first try to use your feet and bridge back over to the opposite side to resume your escape. If your opponent post their foot behind to prevent your bridge from effectively working, you will have to reset yourself back to Turtle in order to re-roll into the weak-side. To do this, use your top foot to hook underneath your opponent's bottom back-hook and pry it off of your thigh. Once your bottom leg is free, slide your hips over their bottom leg and turn over onto your knees. Roll before your opponent has a chance to follow you and wind up onto the weak-side where you can recover into top position by hugging at their legs and climbing yourself upwards towards their chest. Stay low on their hips and legs as you twist out of their Seat-Belt Control and don't let them pummel an under-hook on the far-side. While attempting to escape from your opponent's Seat-Belt from the Turtle-Position, always keep track of your opponent's choking arm with both of your hands and your chin tucked to prevent them from advancing towards a strangulation.
