Marcelo imparts important rules for training in his Advanced Class: Participation in class is a team-effort, and involves considering the welfare of everyone sharing the mats together with one another; we all need to properly share both time and space when warming-up, drilling, and sparring-live. When we prioritize and accommodate for other's safety, we can actually derive benefits that extend far beyond just keeping our training partners safe. When mats are packed and crowded, we cannot always resort to finishing techniques like as if we were in a competition; sometimes we must know when we should concede a lost position and accept fighting from a place that makes our training even harder for us against a particular opponent. Similarly , some circumstances call for us to reset backwards and retry our efforts with creativity or a greater effort on our part rather than finishing at the cost of knocking into a wall or another group. Imposing limitations like these on ourselves while training can develop into healthy habits that improve not only our own abilities but also protect our teammates from needless injuries.
