Improving Technique: Drilling vs Sparring
Marcelo reminds his advanced class to focus on specific goals during live training: Getting better at certain moves is a matter of quality over quantity; repetition is still a factor, but any monotony should be tempered with variable resistance so that one may develop proper timing, learn the minimum effective strength, and sort out the finer details of a movement. Don't let distractions derail you from concentrating on a bounded task, nor allow yourself to drift away from reaching a predetermined or valuable set of skills. Concentration and deliberate practice will inform your long term behaviors and set you up for successful application of techniques.
