Marcelo advises Rush and Phil on aspects of 1Leg-X retention: If your opponent clears your foot off of their hip and hops over your knee, be prepared to meet heavy pressure as they look to close the distance after spinning around to face you. This may require you to post onto their hips with a straight-arm frame, possibly even grabbing onto their belt to secure yourself until you have enough room to maneuver your legs back into place for the complete Single-Leg X-Guard position. If they drop down slowly, you may only need to pop them away quickly before resetting your knee and foot into place. Also, try your best to move yourself underneath of your opponent's base rather than using your grips to pull them on top of you; if they intend on getting close, you may inadvertently help them out if you try recovering with a pull, as opposed to pushing away and scooting beneath them instead.
