1-Part Lesson -- Marcelo teaches how to defend against getting his arm crossed from inside his opponent's Butterfly-Guard and Closed-Guard: If your opponent is able to successfully apply 2on1-Control, they can cross your arm and redirect any of your forward passing pressure and also begin exposing your back. Ideally, break the hold quickly before the grip is settled; otherwise, use a series of compounded grip-feeds onto their lapel to help hold your upper body in a parallel alignment before advancing. If your opponent happens to cross your arm far passed centerline while inside their Closed-Guard, step up and drop your knee tightly against their hip, wedging it into place at an angle to stop them from elevating around towards your back. Keep your elbow heavily anchored onto their side as you work to slowly free yourself from their rotational attack until you can find steady grips to launch an attack of your own.
