Bridge Escape vs Side Control
Marcelo walks through a series of steps for escaping Side-Control: If your opponent is holding you down tightly with a Cross-Face and Under-Hook clasped together in Side-Mount, you need to create room for your hands to help work yourself out of the position. Alternate your feet with successive Bridge-Escapes so that can you produce a lateral force and make your opponent loosen their grip in response to your movement. If space opens up around their Under-Hook, pummel your hand inside and take an Under-Hook of your own. Use this control to help get onto your side where you can then begin utilizing your Butterfly-Hooks for recovery or sweeps. If space opens ups around your opponent's Cross-Face, deflect their arm around your head and expose their triceps for an Elbow-Push Escape.
