Marcelo finds an alternative route towards guard recovery: Ideally, one should be prepared to block their opponent from connecting their hands together for Under-Hook & Head-Control as they arive into Side-Control; however, if you are late to intercept their arms, insert a frame against their neck and hip and elevate your legs in preparation for a strong bridge. Slame your feet down hard into the mat as you raise your hips high up into your opponent while looking for extension with your frames; hip escape away and slide your shin across their stomach to create a stronger frame and continue your recovey. During your Frame & Bridge Escape against Side-Control, if your opponent doesn't give you enough space to square yourself up back in parallel for a Full-Guard, take your outside-leg and swing it quickly in front of your opponent's chest, catching their shoulder-line with the sole of your foot. Use your step to press your opponent away and recompose an Open-Guard. If they continue to pressure forward, close your legs around their waist and hunt for a submission. Capture their arm against your torso and swivel your hips around their shoulder to maneuver yourself into position for the Armbar.
