Underhook and Head Control from Side Control, North South Choke from Side Control
2 Part Technique - Mastering the North South Choke is a matter of practice, timing, and attention to detail. If you're having trouble with the finishing pressure, try to assess where you're delivering your weight and from which direction. Marcelo has found that the best way to perform the choke is to direct his squeeze through his shoulder, straight down onto the center of his opponent's throat. Slide yourself backward to open up his jaw away from his chest to drop your shoulder -- too much one way and you'll inefficiently crank his jaw, too much the other way and you'll distribute the force over his collarbone. If at any point during the finish your opponent defends by pushing your face, swat away his hands and hide your chin.
