Underhook and Head vs Half Guard, Back Step Pass vs Half Guard, Side Underhook and Head vs Deep Half Guard
2 Part Technique - Sometimes after back-stepping against your opponent's half guard, he decides to play flat off of his back rather than turning into you. If he turns into you, Underhook & Head Control will allow you to hold him in a position to kick free your leg without a problem. Trying to kick your leg free while he lays on his back or worse yet, he begins turning away from you, may put stress on your knee joint from the misalignment. Realign yourself to kick your leg free by modifying your Underhook & Head Control so that your chest pushes into his ear, and turn your knee upward as you look to pass it through. Turn over quickly to finish on top in side control with your underhook still intact. If he grabs onto your leg while in the reverse half guard position, literally dive underneath his head for the Side Underhook & Head Control. Trust in your underhook; even if it seems like you're falling onto your back, if he lets go of the half guard, you will be able to rise above.
