Elbow Push Escape vs Side Control, Hip Roll Escape vs Side Control
2 Part Technique - If you cannot brace your opponent off of your chest as he tries to establish Side Control, at the very least don't let him make his grips. Knock away his crossface to the farside, exposing his tricep for the Elbow Push Escape. If he does manage to secure a grip for his head control, turn onto your side and prevent him from securing the farside underhook by holding onto his wrist. Sneak your top leg passed his arm enough to post out onto the mat, and roll over back into guard. If you need time to collect yourself and calculate your next move, you may prefer Closed Guard after the Hip Roll Escape. If you decide that you're ready to counter back immediately, sit up into Butterfly Guard and hit him with a quick sweep before he can act.
