Knee Cross vs Half Guard, Leg Over Pass vs Half Guard
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo teaches how to react when you cannot establish a far side underhook in half guard: [I] When you find yourself in half guard, your best bet is to cross face with your near arm and pummel for the far side underhook to control your opponent. If you find, however, he is staying so tight you don't have the space or time to do so and he is also reaching between your legs to pull your leg over top of him, continue to cross face, sprawl your leg back and, instead of pummeling for the far side underhook, push his far knee to help free your own knee and drive it to the mat. Once in this quarter guard type position, pummel for the near side underhook and establish head and arm control. Raise your hips and cut your knee across his body, driving your hips through until you have freed the remaining part of your trapped leg. [II] If after you have freed your knee, you find your opponent already pulling your leg over him so you no longer have the space required to dig for the near side underhook, push his head and pass your leg over him landing on the other side. It is important to get your hips to the mat and pummel for the far side underhook as soon as possible. Once again, establish a tight head and arm control and slowly work to free the remaining part of your trapped leg to complete the pass.
