2 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains the mindset for Escaping the Half Mount: [I] Your escape is dependent on offsetting your opponent's weight distribution long enough to reclaim back your Underhook; push your opponent's hip on top of yours as you look to bridge outside with your inside leg -- whether your get your whole arm, just the elbow, or a hand inside the opponent's Underhook & Head Control, you have to pummel back an Underhook of your own to recover your guard. This oftentimes requires a concerted effort on your part; it's better to die fighting. Expend as much energy as necessary to reclaim back the Underhook against the Half Mount. [II] If you cannot flip your opponent over with the Bridge Escape, swing or grapevine your Butterfly Hook under his thigh for a Hook Sweep from Butterfly Half, disconnecting his hands and giving yourself the chance to frame back inside.
