Hand Fighting from Side Control → Elbow Push Escape → Foot Wipe Escape → Sit Up Escape → Scarf Hold Escape → Biceps Push Escape vs Side Control
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo shows how he avoids Side Control: [I] If your opponent works to pass your guard and hasn't crossed up past your chest yet to establish the top position with a Cross-Face, Knee-on-Belly, or Run-to-N/S, you still have time to escape his attack; focus on his nearside arm and don't let it grab your gi or head. Either grab or block his elbow and then cross his arm over to the farside where you can latch onto his triceps and perform the Elbow-Push Escape. If he doesn't let you cross his arm and he forgoes trying to control your high nearside, continue blocking out his arm and Hip-Escape away until there's room for the Foot-Wipe Escape back to Butterfly Guard. [II] If your opponent switches his base to a Scarfhold to counter your Hip-Escapes, rock your legs and hit the Sit-Up Escape or Biceps-Push Escape. Remember to place an elbow behind you on the mat and build up to a full post to knock into his posture.
