3 Part Lesson — Marcelo discusses his Kumite-Arasoi (Grip Fighting): [I] If your opponent is resistant to committing contact and continually disengages from grip formations, chase him down and offer up your wrist; brush your arm within his grasp to entice a reaction. When he goes to grab your offer, rip it away before he can settle on your sleeve and immediately intercept his reach with a grip of your own. Turn the cross-grip into 2-on-1 Contol and utilize the double-up to setup a shot, pull, sweep, or even pass. [II] If he won't take the bait, start snapping his head down to the mat. If he tries to grab your hand or smack it away, again, intercept his reaction and turn it to your advantage with the 2on1. Be careful to avoid getting shot with a Double Leg Takedown; prepare a sprawl for this potential outcome. [III] If while you snap his head down, he takes advantage of your close proximity and reaches for your collar, promptly latch onto his arm with both hands and break his grip away before it solidifies into a harder problem. Don't release his hand after you defend your collar; take his sleeve and find the 2on1 with the option of making a grip onto the material covering his triceps.
