Knee Slide Pass vs Butterfly → Standing Step Pass vs Butterfly → Push to Open Guard
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo puts pressure on a defensive Butterfly Guard: [I] If you can find a gap along your opponent's side, fire your lead leg knee through the space for the Knee Slide Pass. If the opponent's elbow is tightly defending his or her side, try pushing the knee laterally for a Standing-Step Pass (Flamingo, X-Pass, et al.); you may need to control the pass with Knee-On-Belly if framed or run to North-South if you miss the Underhook. [II] If you cannot make your opponent budge with either of the previous techniques, place both hands on his or her torso and push them flat onto their back, circling around to cut an angle for either the Knee Slide or Standing Step Passes. [III] Remember to evade the capture of either arm when posting into the opponent's body to keep them flat. Retract whichever arm they try to hold while leaving the other arm heavy against sitting up.
