3 Part Lesson — Marcelo explores his options from Knee-On-Belly: [I] Obtaining the Knee-On-Belly Position (Knee-On-Stomach/Chest, Ukigatame, Knee-Ride, Knee-Mount, et al.) will award you two points in IBJJF and ADCC competitions. To validate the score, you must maintain the top position with your other knee off of the mat for three seconds. Accomplish this by keeping your balance and adjusting to your opponent's attempt for recovery. You may need to swat away frames, duck your head, block the far-hip, or float against a bridge (as the name suggests in that of 'Uki' Gatame, or 'Floating' Hold). If you begin losing position, drop back down to Side-Control/Mount. [II] If your opponent inverts to kick you off of the position, run North-South and deflect his or her feet by posting against the legs with your arms. Shimmy your shoulders to pass the frames and fall into top position. [III] Look for openings to attack; if the opponent opens up the far-elbow, take an Underhook and hit the Far-Side Armbar.
