North South Choke from Mount
3 Part Lesson -- Paul demonstrates a Gi-version of the North/South Choke: Maneuver your legs around your opponent when they attempt to assume a defensive posture while mounted; reposition your base so that you accommodate the space created underneath and conform to the shape of your opponent's hips. Essentially, you must transition into a Technical-Mount or S-Mount Position when your opponent turns up onto a side to begin an Elbow-Knee Escape. [02:48] When your opponent begins to turn onto a side, they oftentimes will leave their neck exposed for a strangle. Apply a backstep as you transition through the S-Mount to end up in the North/South Position. Wrap your arm around the opponent's head while executing the movement to find yourself ready to squeeze the choke. [07:08] You can also weave your lapel around your opponent's neck like a noose from the Top-Mount Position. Use your head to help manipulate the opponent's chin so that you make enough room to thread the tail-end of your jacket across the opponent's throat. Find the North/South Position and pull the lapel to apply the throttle for the finish.
