Marcelo demystifies an under-utilized Single-Leg Counter to help Hudson sharpen a Lapel-Assisted Sweep: When playing to sweep/reverse your partner or opponent from a Deep-Half-Guard (Faria, et al.) by feeding and securing a jacket's lapel or skirt-tail through your legs with an Under-Hook, you must remember to adjust your grips so that your opponent cannot take advantage of any odd angles and/or deficiencies in your connection. Manually adjust the slack out of the woven material and close off space to prevent your opponent from slipping their knee and foot free from your control. If you are trying to escape someone who is in on your leg (gi or nogi) with a single-leg attempt or set-up, you may be able to take advantage of this subtle technical gap; apply a Front-Head-Lock to stay connected as you shift your hips northward against your opponent's posture and extract your trapped leg out from their control. Hip-Heist towards prone top position while keeping the head-lock tied to gain a dominant top position that could lead to a nearby finish (Crucifix; Rear-Naked, Guillotine, Anaconda, et cetera).
