Side Control to Back, Taking the Back vs Single Leg
Advanced Lesson Part 1 of 3 -- Marcelo trades one dominant position for another: Whenever your opponent tries to escape from your Side Control by turning over with an Under-Hook, use your chest and elbow to monitor your opponent's triceps and press their arm downward to avert their reach. If you allow your opponent to secure a grip high around your back or your leg, you may have difficulty retaining your top control. However, if you focus on deflecting the Single while moving north towards the Front Head-Lock, you can oftentimes stuff their arm behind your knee and take their back. Look to secure the Seat-Belt, Crucifix, Back-Hooks, and/or the Rear-Naked Choke when your opponent lands on all-fours after you've defended their escape attempt.
