2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo forces his opponent into Butterfly and Half-Guard to pass precisely: Control your opponent's soles until you find a moment that you can stuff their feet in between your knees and force them into Butterfly-Guard while pummeling for Double Under-Hooks. If you can only get control over one foot, stuff it in between as before but this time forcing a Quarter-Mount Position, from which you can precisely and incrementally build yourself around their leg into Half-Mount and eventually a full pass. Use your knees to help shelf your opponent's shin so that you can clear over top of their trapped knee with your outside leg. [5:41] Learn how to determine when you should proceed forward despite your opponent's grips or reject them entirely and resetting back to neutral. Some your opponent can make are more forgiving than others; if your opponent gets a strong grab onto your sleeve, you may want to break it and restart. If your opponent grabs onto your collar, there are threats to your neck, but you may be able to manage the danger and get close enough for a successful pass. Coordinate your knees so that you can team up against your opponent's near-side leg and clear yourself past it while keeping close with your Double Under-Hooks.
