2-Part Advanced Lesson -- Marcelo performs a set of late escapes from bottom Side-Mount: Try your best to not let go of any momentum if your opponent hits a pass and lands with Side-Control; oftentimes, you still have enough time to race against the referee's count for solidifying points and you can parlay your movements into a successful guard recovery. Look for a hip escape and Foot-Wipe Escape, a Sit-Up Escape with a biceps push, or pass their arm for an Elbow-Push Escape; if you can hit any of these in time you may only get an advantage scored against you depending on how far ahead your opponent was able to get. However if your opponent lands heavily on top of you and is able to secure Under-Hook & Head-Control, you still need to get out of the position regardless of the points. Alternate left and right sides with your Bridge-Escape; use both feet to help push off the floor but also don't forget to use your arms to help swing yourself into the movement. If you bridge towards your opponent, you may find a large enough gap of space in between your bodies to pummel for a Frame-Escape with your near-side arm. Conversely, if you bridge hard enough away from your opponent, you may be able to sneak your opposite hand inside and reclaim an Under-Hook. If you are able to pummel your near-side hand inside after bridging towards them, connect your hands together an pry off your opponent's cross-facing Head-Control. Turn onto your side with a Hip-Escape and find a way to recover back your guard; this can come by way of a Foot-Wipe, Knee-Shield, or even a series of Butterfly-Hooks. [4:53] If you bump away from your opponent and are able to pummel your far-side hand inside, continue bridging back the other way along with an Under-Hook. You can use the space you create with your Under-Hook to attack a Single-Leg, take their back, or even pull Deep Half-Guard.
