Hip Roll Escape vs Back Control
1-Part Advanced Lesson -- Marcelo & Demian demonstrate a clever reversal from Turtle to your opponent's Back: While defending your neck from the choke in Turtle, if your opponent doesn't try to follow you over when you roll, you risk getting smooshed on bottom from heavy top pressure. Make sure you are grabbing onto your opponent's choking-arm with both of your hands and also pinching their under-hooking arm with your elbow prior to the roll. Before your opponent has a chance to consolidate top position and establish some form of Side-Control, sneak out the backdoor and peak out, rolling over your opponent's trapped arm. If you can maintain control of their arm and prevent them from rolling out, it is sometimes possible to get a tap-out from a potential shoulder-lock (Body-plata, Jegueplata, et al.); however, more often than not you will simply wind up on top of your opponent's back. If you happen to be on the side of your opponent's Turtle than you do not prefer to initiate an attack, you may have enough time to execute a jump over onto the opposite side and begin an offense or fasten a Seat-Belt of your own.
