Single Leg vs Side Control
Marcelo exemplifies an actual application of the 'Reverse Hip-Escape' done during the warm-up drills down the mat: The Hip-Escape (Front Hipscape, Shrimping, Snaking, Sidewinding, Ebi, et al.) is a fundamental movement that is often incorporated at the onset of most Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes, and is meant to remind students how to efficiently scoot their bodyweight along the ground. Less commonly implemented is the inverted version of the motion, the Reverse Hip Escape (Back Hipscape, Gyaku-Ebi, et al.), wherein the practitioner expands outward rather than contracting in order to translate move down the mat. This type of movement is evident in the situation of turning up onto a Single-Leg from underneath an opponent's Side-Control.
