Elbow Push Escape vs Side Control
Marcelo and Youssef discuss the intricacies of an effective Elbow-Push Escape: There are a multitude of factors that determine the varying degrees of success or failure with the Elbow-Push Escape (Stiff-Arm Escape, Heisman-Escape, et al.); angle of attack, proper timing, and anticipation all play a vital role in executing the technique correctly. Engage your core to keep your posture as upright as possible while sitting up from a recumbent position, and aim for your opponent's triceps just slightly above the hinge-point of their elbow. You may find success with alternative target areas, e.g. pushing against their armpit, but these placements will be found lacking against highly-skilled or heavier opponents.
