Under Hook and Head Control Bridge Sweep from Half Guard
Marcelo and Greg discuss several important features of the one of the more simple, but powerful sweeps that is useful in not only jiu-jitsu but MMA as well: The Underhook & Head Control Bridge Sweep from Half Guard. Training for this move is quite easy during a live spar, since the set-up for the upper body control is readily available from the Butterfly Guard. Simply secure an underhook and hug your opponent's head as you fall back onto the mat. Turn onto your side you so can rotate your grip around his head by escaping your hip out to the side while in half. Bury your forearm into his collar-bone with your palm facing you (as in the grip for a pull-up), and use it to push his shoulder as you trap his leg and bridge him over. If he manages to pass your guard, the worst thing you can do is let go of your Underhook & Head Control. Keep tight, and either scoop his hips onto your for another sweep, or insert your bottom knee back into the half guard. Your opponent's only defense is to post out his hands to the mat; use your underhook to lift his elbow -allowing you to freely roll him onto his side where you can finish on top.
