2 Part Technique - When you close the distance from the Butterfly Guard, you have to get passed your opponent's hands first before you can sweep. What type of control you look for during the hand-fight is oftentimes dependent on your opponent's base. If you notice he is raising one of his knees off of the mat, immediately look to isolate his arm on the opposite side of his posted foot. Scoot underneath his base, lifting his raised leg with a butterfly hook and turn him to the mat with Collar & Wrist Control for the Hook Sweep. Make sure to follow him on top with your hook, otherwise you risk him rebounding and you could possibly lose control over establishing the top position. If he counters by switching his base mid-sweep, quickly gain control over the other side, again securing the head and wrist for a sweep to the opposite side.
