2 Part Technique - Just because every move has a mirror opposite, doesn't mean you have to spend time mastering both the left-side and right-side versions of the position. As long as you have an answer for each side, not necessarily the same technique, then you can still have a complete and effective game. Take for instance the case of taking the back with the Seatbelt from Side Control: Marcelo prefers to only use the Seatbelt Control that favors his dominant hand for choking. If presented with the back from the side that doesn't yield his favored arm, he will fasten his right-handed Seatbelt on the 'wrong' side, and leap over his opponent to the correct side. The important part of taking the back from the Side Control, regardless of which side you are, is preventing your opponent from gaining an underhook while you turn him and expose his back. Once you've fastened the Seatbelt Control, look to trap his near arm in the Crucifix. This will allow you to threaten a double attack; he must now consciously defend the event of the Rear Naked Choke, and also the Crucifix Armbar. N.B. lock the figure-four on his forearm just before the wrist, and configured so that your feet are on the side of his arm closest to his legs.
